Are You Ready? Prepping for a Future in the World of Sports.

For most sports fans, the idea of living in a world surrounded by sports and entertainment would be a dream come true. For DJ Jones, however, it is just another day.

DJ, a sophomore broadcast journalism major, lives with two of Ole Miss’s football players, running back Devon Thomas and defensive end Jason Jones. “It’s not what people would expect. They’re actually really laidback and really cool. They completely defy the stereotype of an athlete.”

With such close connections to the Ole Miss Rebels, DJ has access to an inside look at what goes on behind-the-scenes. “They love the coaches, they love the staff. They’re getting to know them, and it’s going really great so far. I think they’re getting whipped into shape to have a great season.”

While DJ’s roommates have a bright season ahead, DJ’s own future seems just as bright. With the variety of opportunities that Ole Miss’s Student Media Center has to offer, DJ has found a number of ways to prepare for a future in the world of entertainment. “At the Student Media center I have been a sports anchor for NewsWatch, and I DJ on the radio. It gives me the experience I need to maybe take it to ESPN or do entertainment or sports journalism.”

DJ may not know exactly what he wants to do in the future, but he certainly seems to be on the right track. Surrounded by sports and entertainment both at home and at school, DJ’s plan is simple and straightforward: “Just hit the ground running and see where it goes.”
