Giants Press Forward

Lauren McMillin - I have been following the New York Giants' road to the Super Bowl. After reading about the strong, encouraging relationship between head coach Tom Coughlin and quarterback Eli Manning, I found a more recent article that approaches a different angle and discusses the team's confidence as a whole:

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/7521572/2012-nfl-playoffs-antrel-rolle-says-new-york-giants-expecting-win-super-bowl

In addition to the questions the reporter seems to have asked, I would have asked a few more regarding the team's rising confidence and their attitudes toward one another.
1. How have the players grown as a team not only over the past season but over the past few years?
2. How has the coaching staff, particularly the leadership of Coughlin, helped the Giants’ optimistic mentality?
3. Is the harmonious relationship between Coughlin and Manning reflected across the entire team?
4. What role do the fans play in terms of the level of the team’s self-assurance?
5. What goes on off the field, away from the eyes of fans, in regards to the team’s ever-increasing confidence and positive outlook?
1) Post a link to the latest development or angle on the news story you said you were following, and

2) Consider the questions the reporter must have asked. Post at least five questions you would have asked sources. (In other words, what five questions remained unanswered?)

Cruise Ship Crash

I am following the story on the cruise ship that crashed on the coast of Italy. The captain who fled the ship should be arrested and charged for every passenger that was hurt or simply could not be found in my opinion. I find it very depressing and sad that the country called off their search for more survivors today.

Republican Race (with a little Libertarian too)

Chelsea Brock - I've been following the Florida GOP Primary elections over the past week. Tonight, the winner will be announced. As it stands, Mitt Romney seems to be in the lead. Rick Santorum continues to lose support, but he has stated that he refuses to drop out of the race.
I know i'm late and I apologize for that, but I've been following a sports story from ESPN. Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic is seeking out a new team to play for. Rumor has it that the New Jersey Nets, The Dallas Mavericks, and the Los Angeles Lakers have given him trade offers. Howard has not picked a team yet.

Like Coach, Like Quarterback

An article in the New York Times today discusses the harmony between New York Giants' head coach Tom Coughlin and quarterback Eli Manning. After leading the Giants to victory in 2007, the pair hopes to bring home a second Super Bowl win next Sunday.

The Huffington Post covered a story a story about the Arkansas Democratic campaign manager Burris' family cat. The cat was found killed with the word "LIBERAL" spray painted on its side. Authorities are still looking into the event and the person or people responsible will be held to the fullest extent of the law.

Pentagon Budget

Lauren McMillin - An article in The Daily Beast reported that the Pentagon will be decreasing its budget for 2013. Following President Obama's deficit-reduction deal, cuts will affect the size of the Army and the Marine Corps. This is the first time the Pentagon has shortened its budget since 1998.

Plus/Minus System

At the end of last semester, the DM published an atricle about the new plus/minus system. Many students are unhappy that teachers have the ability to chose whether they want to use the new system because of the "inconsistent translation of numerical grades into GPAs."

Ole Miss Baseball

In the DM today There was an article about the Ole Miss baseball team being ranked #22 nationally in the preseason poll. This has become a yearly thing for the diamond rebs as this is the 8th time in the last 9 years they have been ranked in the top 25. Ole Miss baseball has been the most successful sports program for the university over the last decade. They open the season Friday Febuary 17th against TCU.

Sarah Rose Watkins-In The Commercial Appeal online, they wrote about Ole Miss wide receiver, Nicholas Brassell. He could be in violation of NCAA rules. The Internet leaked a picture of him inviting guests to his birthday party with a $10 charge to get in the door. Players are prohibited commercial activity charging money. The NCAA is gathering facts for further investigation.

JOUR271

A news story that I read today on The DM online was about the pending dicision on whether or not to suspend Kappa Sig fraternity from Ole Miss. The dicision will be made public tomorrow by the University of Mississippi judicial council.

Welcome to JOUR 271, Spring 2011! Let's get this started with a News Roll Call. What news story are you following? Share a brief description in a post below after your name.
